Opening in theaters February 23rd, Amazing Grace the movie stars Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic Four) as William Wilberforce, the man who championed the abolition of slavery in the British Empire. His life was also an astounding spiritual and moral quest, and he is an inspiration to millions to this day. Amazing Grace tells an inspiring story of how one man can change the world.
This collection of songs inspired by Amazing Grace features modern day versions of period hymns preformed by top country Superstar Martina McBride as well as some of Christian music’s top artists, including Chris Tomlin, Jars of Clay, Steven Curtis Chapman, and David Crowder.
Featuring an all-new version of the classic “Amazing Grace,” Chris Tomlin admits to being uncomfortable when asked to pen a new verse for the song, which he sings along with the Wilberforce University Choir. The final version of the hymn also includes a resurrected verse that was part of the original poem, but left out of recent hymnbooks.
I really enjoyed listening to Amazing Grace, and I’m hard pressed to pick my favorite hymn. All of them are well-known favorites, with new touches to the songs. I liked the praise additions they made to “Amazing Grace” the most. Fans of old time hymns, as well as followers of the many different artists who collaborated on the project will want to grab a copy of Amazing Grace. It won’t disappoint. This will be one to be enjoyed over and over.
