A professor of Romance Languages with her doctorate degree, Molly Whitcomb has never been treated as an equal among the male professionals she works with. When faced with an unjust decision after her relationship with another professor comes to light, Molly forsakes her home in Georgia and all she’s known and travels to the wilds of the Colorado Territory. She hopes to start anew as schoolteacher in the small town of Timber Ridge. To make people accept her better, she tells one falsehood even though it goes against all she believes in, but she never imagines the repercussion that will follow as a result.

James McPherson is enamored with Dr. Molly Whitcomb from the start. But his senses, honed from many years serving as Timber Creek’s sheriff, warn him that she’s hiding something. Even so, his heart is pulled toward her as with no other woman. She’s kind to all, reaches out to the less fortunate, and stirs his senses. Is she the one he’s waited so long for?

Molly doesn’t deserve such a good man as James, but she can’t seem to keep him from coming around even though she tries to dissuade him. As their relationship grows, she knows she owes him the truth. But she fears that once he’s learned it, he will no longer look at her the same. Is James’s and Molly’s love strong enough to withstand the truth? Or will Molly once again lose everything?

Beyond this Moment is the newest book in Tamera Alexander’s Timber Ridge Reflections series and tells the story of James, the kind-hearted sheriff readers met in From A Distance. James is a man of integrity, and when he falls for Molly, readers know that he is going to have a real struggle when he learns she’s not being completely honest with him. Molly’s poor choices have changed her life and lifestyle, forcing her to move away from all that’s familiar. She meets James and realizes she never knew such a good man existed, but her choices have left her with baggage—baggage she can’t ask James to carry.

Ms. Alexander has a deft way of throwing together two protagonists who have immediate chemistry and sparks but also big conflicts. She paints the Colorado wilderness with such skill that you can smell the pines and hear them signing in the wind. She shows the prejudices of the time period and how unjust they were. The theme of Beyond This Moment is that no matter how one ruins his or her life, God can redeem it if they only turn to Him.
