Rebecca
St. James & Vicky Beeching
June 9, 2007
Hershey, Pennsylvania
by Tracy & C.J. DarlingtonPut on by The Salvation Army, this concert was aptly titled a Kaleidoscope of Praise as Rebecca St. James concerts have always included worship songs (some original, some traditional). Newcomer Vicky Beeching hales from across the pond in England, but she's making it clear her passion is for worship, too.
Strumming her guitar, back-up band supporting, Vicky seemed calm and at ease in front of the massive crowd, and she soon had us in a worshipful spirit as the night's opener. Performing songs off her first album as well as her sophomore release Painting the Invisible, including "Join the Song" with its catchy chorus, "Praise God from whom all blessing flow..." she also showed her playful side, telling humorous stories from her life. Ending at the piano (after using her harmonica), she paved the way for Rebecca and her band.
Taking the stage, Rebecca immediately had the crowd excited and on their feet with her song "Alive". She performed many more of our favorites, including "Thank You", "Blessed Be Your Name", "Wait for Me", "Forgive Me", and the acoustic "You Are Loved". In between songs she took time to share what's been on her heart. In particular, the revelation God's given her about his love for us. Midway during the concert Rebecca gave the stage to her backup singer Charmaine (an artist in her own right) who sang her song "Save the Day".
Always encouraging and uplifting, Rebecca St. James & Co. are worth listening to, and seeing, whenever they come into your town.
Interesting note: the stage this night was a round one in the center of
the room, giving concert goers the chance to see Rebecca and the band from
many different angles.
