Flyleaf, Skillet, Fair to Midland, Dropping Daylight April 9, 2007 Chambersburg, Pennsylvania
Expectations ran high as the line waiting outside Chambersburg Area High School wrapped all the way around the building. When the doors opened, the crowd made a mad dash for the stage.
A few minutes after 7:00 the concert kicked off with new secular band Dropping Daylight. With a piano-driven rock sound akin to Mute Math, the guys got the crowd revved. Soon following was Fair to Midland (also secular). Their set was heavier and a little less understood by concert goers, but its lead singer’s acrobatic antics were something to watch.
Then Skillet took the stage.
"Whispers in the Dark" immediately pleased the screaming audience. Lead singer and bassist John Cooper held our attention from the first notes, and Korey Cooper (keys & guitar), Lori Peters (drums), and Ben Kasika kept the music pumping. Hit song “Rebirthing” was probably the highlight, closely followed by “The Last Night” and “Savior”.
Flyleaf finished out the night with power, lead singer Lacey Mosley belting out such favorites as “I’m So Sick” and “Cassie”. Mosley’s stage presence matched John’s, but she took the time to share a few heart-renching stories behind the songs, and her obvious care for the audience became clear as she made sure the sardine-packed crowd in front of the stage was staying safe with their moshing. We heard the band’s hearts in their lyrics, but they certainly didn’t compromise on the rockin’ music.
A concert well worth attending that left our ears ringing and our spirits high. |
