With a raw, powerful rock edge, “Relentless,” is the direct result of husband Bernie Herms being at the helm. The rowdier material invites comparisons to Kelly Clarkson and Barlowgirl. There are also hints of Carrie Underwood and Nicole C. Mullen mixed within the songs.
Woven throughout the “Relentless” is the theme of trusting God right through life's tribulations and disappointments. You’ll find the right mixture of power ballads and downright funky sizzlers.
Grant has honed her vocals to near perfection: letting loose into the higher octaves with great ease while simmering with mesmerizing
restraint when needed.
Several titles incorporate a tight and hip brass section, a definite highlight to this CD. It brought memories of my days in high school and college as a trumpet player.
Prime cuts include the opening track “I Will Not Be Moved,” “Make it Matter,” “Make a Way” and the bonus track "In Christ Alone" which gets an original soulful touch with rousing guitar riffs. Although "Perfect People" (track #6) is rhythmically upbeat and singable, this particular concept seemed overly simplified and too obvious.
Even though it took 3 years to bring this project to fruition, this multi-Dove Award winner persisted. "Relentless" is indeed worth the wait because of Grant’s consummate vocals and insightful lyrics. She has
gained another fan!
